T Says

Pemaquid Point where I spent a lot of time growing up. The sign is particularly relevant to me as I was very nearly swept out into the ocean when I was 5 or 6. I was standing on the rocks in the middle right of the top photo with several relatives including a cousin and her mother, my aunt. I’ve seen some pretty huge waves there on stormy days but this day was not one of them. Still, all of a sudden, a large wave reached up and knocked me over. My quick acting cousin grabbed my hair as the sea tried to pull me away and held on. She saved me from near certain death. I remember the powerful water washing over me and the searing pain in my head and also on my legs where the barnacles were scraping me. I also remember, with terrifying clarity, my aunt screaming franticly “LET HIM GO!!! LET HIM GO!!!”  Although I know she was only worried that her own daughter would be swept away too, I still cannot bring myself to forgive her for that. I’m not sure I ever will.
